India is emerging as an important destination for international higher education, with leading foreign universities establishing campuses to bring global academic experiences closer to Indian students. The development offers new possibilities for students seeking international qualifications, specialised programmes and exposure to global teaching standards without leaving the country.
Among the institutions entering this evolving landscape is the University of New South Wales (UNSW), one of the world’s top 20 universities. The university opened its India campus in Bengaluru in August, launching four programmes: Bachelor of Business, Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Bachelor of Data Science and Decisions, and Master of Cyber Security.
The university had planned to admit around 120 students across these programmes for its inaugural intake. However, it enrolled 90 students, according to a report in The Hindu. The initial figures highlight the time and effort required for international institutions to establish their presence and attract students in India.
Global Degrees, Opportunities at Home
The arrival of foreign universities could expand educational choices for Indian students, offering access to international curricula, specialised learning and potential industry connections closer to home. It may also encourage greater competition among institutions, creating opportunities to improve academic quality and student experiences.
However, access to international education comes with financial considerations. Annual tuition fees for individual undergraduate and postgraduate programmes at foreign university campuses in India range from ₹10 lakh to ₹20 lakh. Students and parents will therefore need to assess affordability, programme quality and potential career outcomes before making decisions.

India could prevent question paper leaks in high-stakes entrance examinations by generating question papers at the last minute from a large, secure question bank, according to Infosys co-founder Nandan Nilekani.
Speaking at the Bloomberg New Economy Forum 2026 in Delhi, Nilekani questioned the need to prepare examination papers well in advance. He suggested that a technology-driven system could generate papers shortly before examinations, reducing opportunities for leaks and the advance sale of question papers.
Nilekani, who chairs the high-powered task force on examination reforms, also said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was keen to implement the panel’s recommendations.
He argued that the existing practice of preparing and storing question papers in advance creates opportunities for malpractice. A system that generates papers just before an examination could significantly reduce this risk by limiting the time during which confidential questions are accessible.
“Why do we need to have something called a question paper?” Nilekani asked, highlighting the potential of a large question bank from which examination papers could be assembled immediately before the test.
According to his proposal, this approach could eliminate the incentive for advance leaks and sales of question papers, strengthening the integrity of competitive examinations.
The suggestion comes amid continuing concerns over examination security in India, where entrance tests play a crucial role in admissions to higher education institutions and professional courses.
If implemented effectively, the technology-led approach could mark a major shift in examination management, making assessments more secure and reducing opportunities for manipulation. However, its success would depend on robust cybersecurity, reliable technology infrastructure and transparent procedures to ensure fairness for all candidates.

The Delhi government has transferred over ₹71 crore directly into the bank accounts of 5.25 lakh students studying in government schools to support the purchase of uniforms and school bags.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced the initiative, highlighting the government’s commitment to improving educational facilities and providing financial assistance to students.
Under the scheme, each eligible student will receive ₹1,370, including ₹1,250 for school uniforms and ₹120 for a school bag. The direct transfer aims to ensure that financial assistance reaches beneficiaries efficiently and transparently.
The Chief Minister emphasised that meaningful improvements in education require cooperation between government institutions and private organisations. She also underlined the importance of encouraging innovation and positive changes within the education system.
In another significant development, the Delhi government has directed officials to identify and address students’ concerns through regular communication.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta instructed Education Minister Ashish Sood and Minister of State Ravinder Indraj Singh to engage with students, understand their difficulties and coordinate with school authorities and local representatives to resolve issues effectively.
Meanwhile, the government has announced plans to establish 24 new primary schools under the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD). The announcement was made during the inauguration of a school in the Aaram Bagh area.
These initiatives reflect the Delhi government’s focus on strengthening school infrastructure, supporting students financially and improving access to quality education.
By combining direct financial assistance, student engagement and infrastructure expansion, the government aims to create a more supportive and accessible learning environment for children across the national capital.
Turkey has introduced new regulations to restrict social media access for children under the age of 15, marking a significant step towards strengthening online safety and protecting young users in the digital environment.
Under the new rules, social media platforms will be prohibited from providing services to children below 15. Companies will be required to implement age-verification mechanisms when users create accounts, using Turkey’s e-government system. Accounts identified as belonging to children under the permitted age will be blocked.
The regulations are scheduled to take effect on November 1, with platforms expected to complete age verification for existing accounts by March 31, 2027. Accounts found to belong to under-15 users will have to be closed.
The measures also introduce additional safeguards for teenagers aged 15 to 17. Their accounts will be private by default, with content filters and restrictions on personalised advertising and livestreaming features. Platforms will also be required to introduce technical measures to prevent screenshots from being captured on these accounts.
Parental supervision is another key element of the new framework. Social media companies must provide tools enabling parents to manage account settings, limit screen time and authorise paid transactions.
To ensure compliance, Turkey has established strict penalties for platforms that fail to follow the regulations. Violations could result in fines of up to 3% of global revenue, advertising bans and restrictions on bandwidth.
The move reflects growing international concern about children’s exposure to harmful online content, excessive screen time and digital risks. Turkey’s approach places greater responsibility on technology companies and parents to create safer online experiences for young people.
The implementation of these rules will be closely watched as countries worldwide debate how to balance children’s digital participation with online safety and responsible social media use.
