Nearly 62,000 serving teachers in Uttar Pradesh have failed the UPTET 2026, raising concerns over their continued employment in government schools. The development comes against the backdrop of the Supreme Court’s 2025 ruling making the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) an important requirement for teachers covered by the applicable service rules.
However, failing the latest UPTET does not automatically mean that all 62,000 teachers will lose their jobs immediately. Their employment status will depend on factors such as their date of appointment, remaining years of service, applicable recruitment and service rules, and opportunities to qualify in subsequent TET examinations.
The Supreme Court had addressed the requirement of TET qualification for in-service teachers and laid down conditions concerning teachers appointed before and after the implementation of the relevant rules. The ruling also considered teachers approaching retirement and the practical implications for those already serving in schools.
For the affected teachers in Uttar Pradesh, the latest results therefore create a significant professional challenge. Those who have not yet reached the relevant service or retirement thresholds may need to qualify in a future TET examination to continue meeting the required eligibility conditions.
The issue is now being closely watched by teachers, education departments and policymakers, as the implementation of the Supreme Court’s directions could have a substantial impact on thousands of serving educators across the state.
Singapore has expanded its restrictions on mobile phone use in secondary schools, requiring students to keep their devices stored throughout the entire school day. The updated rules cover not only classroom lessons but also recess, co-curricular activities (CCAs) and supplementary lessons.
Under the new approach, students are expected to keep their mobile phones inside their bags or in designated lockers during school hours. Smartwatches are also included in the restrictions because of their ability to receive messages and notifications, which can distract students from learning and school activities.
The move reflects Singapore’s growing focus on creating a more attentive and less digitally distracted school environment. While mobile phones can provide useful communication and access to information, schools are increasingly concerned about excessive screen time, notifications and messaging affecting students’ concentration and interaction with peers.

Schools across the UAE are preparing to welcome students for the 2026–27 academic year, with classes scheduled to begin on August 31, 2026. The new session will bring renewed attention to academic achievement, student wellbeing, technology and future-ready learning.
International schools are also preparing to welcome students following a range of globally recognised curricula, including British and American programmes. New and expanding campuses are adding modern facilities and learning spaces to meet growing demand from families.
The academic calendar includes 185 instructional days across three terms. Schools are expected to combine classroom learning with greater emphasis on innovation, creativity, digital skills and practical education, helping students develop capabilities needed for an increasingly technology-driven world.
The journey of visionary institution owners began with a single belief — that every aspiring student deserves access to quality education and meaningful opportunities.
